Another Family Classic

I've been looking through mom's computer and finding tons of awesome pictures and videos that we've forgotten about, but here is a video i just found that I took on the drive to/from the New Mexico family reunion. Some of it is sideways, but i still love it. Mom's reading, dad's driving, dan is whistling and we're all enjoying the soft sounds of tyler in the back seat singing redemption song. :) hahah

The Meek shall Inherit.....

There is something to be said about those among us who never give up on their dreams. Here are two individuals who, despite worldly circumstances , never gave up. If these do not make you smile, there is something seriously wrong. You may have seen these before, but I personally can never get enough of the underdog coming out ahead.

Happy Easter Morning!

Today, I read the account of resurrection morning found in John 20. I found it interesting that John notes how even up until the moment that John and Peter arrived at the tomb, they did not understand what had happened. It even says that John "came first to the sepulchre, and he saw, and believed", as though the truth of the resurrection simply did not resonate until he saw the empty tomb. As Mary fearfully considers what had happened to the Lord upon arriving at the tomb, an angel, and then Jesus himself, ask Mary: "Why weepest thou?" She did not understand the significance of what had happened or the literal reality of the resurrection until the moment that she realized that Jesus was alive and standing before her.

I think that when we begin to believe and understand the atonement, the point of the Lord's question to Mary, "Why weepest thou", applies to all of life's problems and concerns. I am grateful that Christ made it possible for our mortal sins, trials, and disappointments to fall away. The atonement takes a lifetime to understand and probably forever to appreciate, yet every person can take whatever testimony they have and try harder to believe. There is no reason to weep, because the hardest things to overcome have already been made possible if we use the blessing of the atonement.

Isaiah 25: 8 He will swallow up death in victory and the Lord God will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people shall he take away from off all the earth: for the Lord hath spoken it.

HAPPY EASTER!

Happy First Place Morning!

I realize that it is Easter today so I will post something to make up for the distraction. But among all the reasons for hope, I thought this was funny.

The Padres are in first place. And I got a picture to prove it.

UPDATE! April 15, 2009...

Enjoy it while it lasts.

My Peep Show!!!

For some odd reason everyone in my family LOVES PEEPS, except me! They cherish them, cannot wait to open a new pack and then immediately bite the head off! Go figure!

Kenton loves Peeps so much that he will buy them throughout the year- no special holiday is required for him to enjoy the gooey treats. And He tries to make them last as long as possible, kind of like how I try to keep a box of See's chocolate as long as possible. Please do not tell me that Peeps are as good as chocolate for that is impossible.

Everyone is getting into this Peep thing, even Jodi is sending Peeps to people on Facebook! (Although she did not send one to me I am not bitter).

I saw on one website that someone made a picture of Jesus out of Peeps, now come on peep-l!

I went to the Peep website (yes they do have a website) and learned that Peeps come in yellow, pink, blue, lavender, blue green and the new color green! Question, If you hid Peeps with the rest of your Easter candy for an easter egg hunt, wouldn't the green Peeps just blend into the grass?

Peeps come in the shape of a chick (this was the only type of peep available when I was a kid) or a rabbit during the spring Peep season. And though I have not seen them they do come in the shape of a Tulips!

I think the Peep people are trying to expand their customer base this year by offering a new Peep, you guessed it , a chocolate Peep - so far resisted that temptation without any problem.

So without trying to offend anyone I will just offer one simple picture of how I feel about Peeps -

Cherry Blossoms!

The cherry blossoms are out in full force this weekend here in Washington DC. It was an absolutely beautiful day so I took the chance to head out and take some awesome pictures. Don't you wish you were in Washington right now?

We're Famous :)

So maybe this is just a 'Shauna and Kenton Oakes' family thing, but Dan and Tyler and I like to look at this website called icanhascheezburger.com which has funny pictures of cats with funny captions. We just like it because we can get a good laugh out of it, especially because all the captions are in this language called "lolspeak", which is really funny. So when we were at the family reunion this past summer Dan and I came up with one of our own that we thought was really funny, and today I decided to put it up on the website. :) So Dan and I are now on icanhascheezburger.com :) I hope at least maybe mom and dad and Tyler think this is funny. hahah here is the link to see the picture on the actual website. If you go to it you should vote 5 cheezburgers for it. :)
